A collaboration between Alexandra Bachzetsis and Dorota Sajewska

UPCOMING EVENTS ARE ANNOUNCED AS ACTIVITIES

In 2020 Alexandra Bachzetsis and Dorota Sajewska initiated the OPEN STUDIO project in Zurich—a laboratory for performative situations, envisioned as a joyful extension of institutional research and a critical examination of the conditions of creative work in its social and economic contexts. It was a continuation and development of Alexandra Bachzetsis's idea started in Athens during documenta 14 (2015-2018). At the heart of the new edition of the OPEN STUDIO was her artistic studio in Zurich, which was conceived as a place of encounter, mutual exchange, courageous experimentation, trial and failure, voluntary coming and going. The OPEN STUDIO was a public workshop in which artists and thinkers were given the freedom for formal experiments, aesthetic transgressions, intellectual and technical slips, without which no artistic process would be conceivable. The OPEN STUDIO provided the infrastructure, space and technical equipment for a circle of interested people who wanted to accompany the artistic process with their emotional and intellectual commitment.

Alexandra Bachzetsis and Dorota Sajewska are continuing their collaboration in the form of a more intimate experimental studio and rehearsal work. Their performative method is characterised by a process-oriented approach based on imagination, the exploration of new forms of artistic expression and the search for innovative patterns of thought. Process-oriented collaboration between Alexandra Bachzetsis and Dorota Sajewska is about playfully questioning, suspending and, in a sense, 'undoing' aesthetic norms and conventions, as well as experimenting with and using bodies, objects and other artistic media in new ways.
